Every Line Matters
Reading Scripture
In film, very few lines are meaningless. Almost everything is either developing character or advancing the story.
In a similar way, God wrote his word with intentionality and purpose. The Bible is filled with people who experience real emotions, struggles, failures, and victories. And though it is made up of many books, the Bible unfolds with a unified narrative that points to God’s redemptive work throughout history.
When we read Scripture, we should keep this in mind. We can look at biblical characters not simply as names on a page, but as real people with backgrounds, motivations, fears, and hopes. At the same time, we can step back and see the full picture—recognizing how the different parts of the Bible work together as one cohesive story.
We can immerse ourselves in the story, and see our place in it.
