Fresh Worship
Music and Song
After many years of leading worship, I’ve learned a few ways to keep it fresh.
Leading with many people over the years is bittersweet. While I miss those I’ve played with in the past, I understand that God calls people to different churches and different areas of service. Because of that, I’m always looking for new people to serve alongside.
Experimenting with instrumentation is challenging but worthwhile. It shapes the overall sound. Over the years, I’ve played with drums, cajons, keyboards, pianos, strings, electric guitars, banjos, trumpets, bells, and more.
Trying different arrangements has allowed me to exercise creativity while developing a distinct musical style. It brings new life to familiar songs and allows people to hear them in a fresh way.
Learning new songs is always fun. While I’m picky about what makes it into my rotation, I’m grateful to have built a repertoire that spans decades of worship music.
Writing my own songs has been a blessing, and I’m thankful that our church has been receptive to them.
Our God is a God who delights in music, singing, praise, and worship. It’s a joy to keep finding fresh ways to sing the same unchanging gospel. What a blessing it is to use those gifts to glorify Him!
I’m leading worship this Sunday and trying out my new arrangement for Nothing But the Blood of Jesus. Would you please say a quick prayer for me?
