We rode Jessie’s Critter Carousel today at Disney California Adventure, just like we have so many times before. But today was different.
Before it was Jessie’s Critter Carousel, it was King Triton’s Carousel of the Sea, named after King Triton from The Little Mermaid. We saw it switch over when Paradise Pier became Pixar Pier. “Mosey on over to a giant toy carousel starring Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl. Inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 2, hop aboard a cute desert critter from the world of Woody’s Roundup for a rootin’, tootin’ romp that’ll have you yelling ‘giddyup!’”1 It’s never a long wait.
Today’s ride felt different because, for the first time, Jess and I didn’t stand alongside our kids while they rode—we rode with them. All five of us were on our own desert critters, circling together. It was a moment I didn’t know we’d been waiting for, and then it arrived—quietly and unannounced.
You’d think that, with the number of times we go to Disneyland, it would get boring. But it never does. Every day, every experience, is different. You never know what will happen or what to expect. You get on a ride like you have so many times before—and you get off with something new, all the while enjoying the ride together.
