Practical Applications
Yesterday, I wrote about the influence of the internet and why local, personal relationships should take precedence over online influence. Here are some of the practical ways I try to apply that principle in my own life:
Talk with Jess about what I’m reading and watching online. We also share the podcasts we’re listening to, thinking through the ideas influencing us.
Prioritize face-to-face relationships. We know when it’s time to put down our phones and spend time with each other and the kids. I also make time for our extended family, recognize who my closest friends are, and intentionally invest in those relationships.
Be committed to my local church. Spend time getting to know my brothers and sisters in Christ, serving alongside them, worshiping together, and inviting them to encourage, challenge, and speak into my life.
The goal isn’t to eliminate online influence but to ensure that it never outweighs the influence of those God has placed in my life.
