Jess asked me recently why I’ve been sharing more content about our family and other ministry-related things outside of books. Here are my reasons:
Preaching has changed me. When I started my Bookstagram, I was just reading and reviewing for fun. Now, as a preacher, reading also fuels my sermon prep. And when I write, I bring all of myself to my sermons. This need to present the totality of who I am in my preaching ministry has spilled over into my online life and social media.
I’ve come to realize that there aren’t many Asian American men doing what I’m trying to do online. It took me a while to feel comfortable in my own skin and to work through imposter syndrome. I’m doing my best to push these things forward.
While I still love reading and reviewing, the most popular content on my website is actually my sermons and messages. I wanted to carry some of that energy over to Instagram for a more comprehensive web presence.
With the various relationships I’ve built with authors, publishers, and Christian ministries, I’ve found it better to present myself as a whole person—not just a book reviewer.
I love my family and the work I get to do in ministry, and I genuinely want to share that.
My reasons might change over time, especially if my ministry starts looking different and as the kids get older . This is just what I’m feeling right now. I’m sure I’ll go through seasons of sharing, and I definitely don’t post everything that’s going on. But for now, I’m happy to have you following along. Thanks for reading!

Worship in Heaven
Over on Instagram, I shared this photo of my fam with the words from my Substack post Worship in Heaven: Here and Now. You can’t tell, but we took this quick photo at California Adventure near the Grizzly River Run ride.
My feed is filled with posts about Charlie Kirk, 9/11, and just a general despondency. This photo reminded me to cherish what we have now, and that the Christian is never without hope.

“A lot of people are skeptics, but they might not be cynics.” I found this short clip of Wes Huff speaking on the TGC Gospelbound Podcast with Collin Hansen to be encouraging. Listen on YouTube.
