Marriage Challenges
How I Want to Better Love My Wife
I’ve been thinking about challenging myself, and recently I’ve written about challenging myself with my electric guitar, leading our church youth in worship, how I read, how I write, and how we worship. Today, how I challenge myself in my marriage:
Challenge myself to point us to Christ. It sounds like a no-brainer, but it actually takes intentional effort for us to point each other to Christ. That means reminding each other that we can trust God and sharing the prayer requests we have for each other and our kids. It also means keeping our complaining under control and truly making our conversations edifying.
Challenge myself to be more emotionally open. I try to challenge myself by sharing more of my emotions and thoughts with Jess. I haven’t been the best at this, but I am challenged to share my frustrations and anger more openly and clearly without attacking. I also want to share more of the things that make me happy and how I am blessed by her in our marriage.
Challenge myself to give Jess more of my time. More recently, I’ve been challenging myself to give Jess more of my time. This can play out in a lot of ways, but currently, it means giving up more of my time (or making sure I have the time) to free myself up so I can take care of the kids. This allows Jess to get more work done, hang out with friends, or just have time alone to relax.
I’m leading our marriage small group this weekend! Would you please say a quick prayer for me?
